The monography of Ľubica Voľanská is extraordinary topical in relation to the ageing of the European population today. Simultaneously, the book presents an original contribution to research on ageing and old age through biographical and comparative methods in Slovak and Austrian Ethnology, where this topic has been on the edge of interest.
The publication has an interdisciplinary character. In relation to the sources (written popular autobiographies of elderly people in Bratislava and Vienna) the author uses biographical and comparative method. A gain is the emphasis on the "emic" perspective.
