First NAIRS Summer School for PhD students, August 22–25, 2016, Bratislava, Slovakia

22-25.8. 2016
The Network of Academic Institutions in Romani Studies (NAIRS) is organising the first Summer School for PhD students in Bratislava, Slovakia, on August 22–25, 2016.
The purpose of the network is to foster European and national cooperation between academic institutions in all aspects of Romani studies. NAIRS coordinates practices and promotes multidisciplinary research on Roma, including studies of Roma culture, history, religion, politics and societal status, language, literature and folklore etc., and makes them available to a wider audience. Its overall objective is to develop Romani studies as a well-networked discipline and to cooperate with other academic fields.

Since NAIRS activities also aim to promote and conduct joint research projects, PhD supervision, student, post doc and staff exchanges and scholarly visits, as well as teaching cooperation between its member institutions, we are happy to open a call for applications for the First Summer School for PhD students, which will take place in Bratislava on August 22–25, 2016.

The objective of this meeting is to create an interdisciplinary space for the networking of young scholars in Romani studies. An interdisciplinary team of lecturers (linguists, ethnologists and sociologists) will present their researches and approaches to Romani studies and will share their experience and knowledge with Summer School participants. This being the first meeting, the event will be thematically open for any topics related to Romani studies.

There is no participation fee for the event, and NAIRS will provide bursaries to cover travel and accommodation expenses for most participants.

The maximum Summer School capacity is 22 participants.
