The Ethical board of the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology SAS v.v.i., as an auxiliary body of the director of IESA SAS v.v.i., deals with ethical issues related to the scientific research activities of IESA SAS v.v.i. staff, from the choice of research topic to the consequences of processing and publishing research results.
Its activities are based primarily on the Code of Ethics of the Ethnographic Society of Slovakia, the Code of Ethics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and other basic standards of ethical behavior at the SAS workplaces. The members of the ethics committee are: the chairwoman of the scientific board of IESA SAS v.v.i., the head of the information and documentation department of IESA SAS v.v.i., the employee in charge of the doctoral study agenda, the editor-in-chief of Slovak Ethnology, and another member appointed by the director of IESA SAS v.v.i. The term of office of the members of the board , is the same as the term of office of their positions, which entitles them to membership in the board. The chairman and secretary are elected by the members of the board among themselves.
Činnosť komisie:
- The Commission prepares and approves the documents necessary for the creation (or documents that are part of) the ethical design of proposals for scientific research projects solved at the IESA SAS v.v.i. (informed consent, etc.).
- Upon request, the Commission comments on and approves the ethical design of research projects.
- Upon request, the Commission shall assist in solving „ad hoc“ ethical issues that may arise during the conduct of research projects.
- The Commission deals with the suggestions of the staff of IESA SAVS v.v.i. relating to violation of basic ethical rules of scientific work, the Code of Ethics of the Ethnographic Society of Slovakia, the Code of Ethics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and generally applicable legislative standards (eg Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on Personal Data Protection, and EU Regulation 2016/679 of the European Parliament and Council) ( commonly known as GDPR).
- The commission assesses the ethical design of doctoral projects.
